Experience a traditional Japanese cha-do (tea ceremony) with tea master, Masaye Nakagawa. Learn about the rituals and elements of Japanese tea ceremonies! Tea ceremonies cultivate a deep spiritual satisfaction through the drinking of tea while engaging in complete awareness and appreciation–for the beauty and uniqueness of the present moment.

Instructor: Junkyouju, Urasenke Foundation, Kyoto, Japan; BA Japan Regional Studies, Henry M Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. For the past several years prior to Covid shutting so much of things down worldwide, Nakagawa had been teaching private Chadou, the “Way of Tea” classes in her home tearoom, Yukouan (友交庵), in Seattle. Masaye has been doing demonstrations of Chadō, the Way of Tea, at the Seattle Art Museum and at the Teahouse in the Japanese Gardens in the Arboretum in Seattle for decades, and will be recommencing demos at the Japanese Gardens this October.
