Join us at the monthly woodworkers meeting 9 to 11 am Saturday, Sept. 9, for a presentation by Grain founders Chelsea and James Minola. Hear how they emphasize social and environmental responsibility while growing their furniture design studio and manufacturing shop, founded in 2008 here on Bainbridge Island.

Grain unites current manufacturing technologies and age-old craft techniques to create made-to-order furniture, lighting, textiles, and objects at their island studio and with expert artisans in North America. Their work has been specified in residential and commercial projects by architects and interior designers across the globe, and their products have been sold by retailers such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and Design Within Reach.

Grain is a majority woman-owned and fully family owned business committed to mitigating and eliminating their entire carbon footprint as a Climate Neutral certified business and a certified B Corp. Their clients include Anthropologie, Areaware, Calvin Klein Home and Schoolhouse Electric & Co.

Hear how their values inform the work they do, the importance of collaboration and community in small business, how they integrate robotics and other technologies into their practice, the ways they connect to clients and the larger design world, and their newfound enthusiasm for all things cork.
