Photo of Amy Burnett's Show "Isolation" at Sidney Art Gallery

Experience Kitsap recently visited artist, Amy Burnett, at the Sidney Art Gallery202 Sidney Avenue, Port Orchard, WA. Her show, Isolation, is currently open, and will run until the end of August. The gallery is open on Saturdays and Sundays, and is available during weekdays by appointment only.

The show features paintings that previously adorned the windows of the Amy Burnett Gallery in 2020, at the corner of Pacific Avenue and 4th Street in downtown Bremerton, WA. Amy says:

“The faces in the pictures are those that greeted the passersby on the sidewalks of Bremerton outside the gallery during the worst of the pandemic. People were afraid to move. Can you imagine walking down the sidewalks and seeing the faces? I didn't want them to be gory or sad, but you're thinking you're enclosed in a space, in a window and the opposite would be movement and so then I am introducing all of the movement in a space so it's a conflict."

Amy, who writes as well as paints, has been a contributing writer to WestSound Magazine, previously known as WestSound Home & Garden, for many years. She is currently working on a writing-painting project for that publication highlighting museum awareness, titled “Amy’s One Painting,” which is a six part project. Every two months, a different Amy Burnett original painting is displayed, donated or sold to benefit local museums and art.

"I did one article for the Admiral Theatre, as well as the Kitsap County Historical Society Museum with adjoining Valentinetti Puppet Museum. My upcoming articles are on the Salmon Center in Belfair and on Augusta Asberry's installation located outside the City of Bremerton's Council chambers."

The upcoming Augusta Asberry article sparked a discussion between Amy and her friend, Bremerton resident Carol Blakley. They spoke of the late Bremerton artist’s metal installation, Girl Dancing With Two Women, agreeing that moving it to the front of the building would give more folks an opportunity to discover and appreciate it.
