U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer spoke at the Silverdale Library on June 3rd, 2022, an event coordinated by Central Kitsap Community Council and the KRL Silverdale Library. He received a warm reception with a number of folks present remembering when Representative Kilmer was a State Legislator!

Included in his discussion: bipartisan innovation bills to promote domestic manufacturing (microchips); infrastructure (Gorst congestion); internet access; culvert replacement for fish passages; the congressional bipartisan Public Shipyard Caucus to support the Navy’s mission by ensuring shipyard funding remains robust; reduction of fossil fuel use; local investment (Quincy Square); and solvency for the Social Security and Medicare programs.

In attendance was Kitsap County District 3 Commissioner, Ed Wolfe; Mark Hughes, Chair of Central Kitsap Community Council; Katie Walters, Executive Director of Leadership Kitsap; Ashley Oaksmith, Silverdale Library Branch Manager; David Emmons, CEO of Silverdale and Bremerton Chambers of Commerce; and members of the public, including local business owner, Sandra Rocha Evanoff, who shared her story about her path to citizenship!

Regarding local matters, Commissioner Wolfe spoke of encampments and how associated case law within the 9th Circuit indicates that the relocation of homes (RV/tents) should be a last resort. Additionally, CEO Emmons shared on the pending merger of the Bremerton and Silverdale Chambers of Commerce.
